Violin II – Sound Rain

Bold and linear, this acrylic painting of a violin is all staccato sound and dancing steps

This is one of three paintings that I’ve done recently exploring my favourite instrument – the violin. The rich browny-reds and the beautiful curves with just the right amount of detail to interest but not overwhelm give me so many wonderful aspects to paint.

Naturally I started with the whole instrument first.

There is something about hearing symphony music live that feels a little bit like standing in a warm steady shower of falling rain. The notes hit your ears and wash over you and some how the sound that was outside is now thrumming inside you.  I think it is kind of obvious I was thinking like that as I created this painting, don’t you?
