Dresses and Dancing – And Looking At Girls

Thoughtful, this young girl in her eggplant gown looks over her shoulder at the patterns in her past in this acrylic painting by Laura Tetrault.

Modern art is what happens when painters stop looking at girls and persuade themselves that they have a better idea.  ~John Anthony Ciardi

I saw this quote today and it made me laugh.

What idea could possibly be better than “girls”?

So many directions to go with this, so little time!

Then I thought about it a little more and wondered if Mr.Ciardi would appreciate this painting as “the missing link” between what is considered “modern” and what is not.

Either way my sweet subject has a clear point of view on the matter.  But whatever it is, for some reason it is coming out backwards. But that’s ok – you can look at the girl if you want to.

  1. I absolutely am looking at the girl. Was there something else in the painting?

From your quote, I should have been a non-modern art painter by profession.

    • yup – “vintage” pattern pieces are in both “Pieces & Patterns” and “Dresses & Dancing”. I think they add a fun element
