Ever felt like you were just ‘winging it’ with your blog?
Do you want to offer email subscriptions to your readers?
Still not sure what RSS is?
Got other basic, blog or promotional related questions?
There are lots of things I wonder about and things that I’ve had the chance to learn about through this blog. I am not a native speaker of “HTML-ese” (have I just proved it to you with that last line?) I often wonder how people do the cool stuff they do on their blogs and if there is a free way to get it on my blog. But we are in luck, my friends. I have found a few creative types who can translate the language of the technical web into things that we can do for ourselves!
Today’s post is more technical how to stuff than technical art stuff but creatives online need to have knowledge of both. For about five minutes I seriously considered writing my own how-to posts for each of the things that I’ve found helpful, and then I woke up!
Yamille, Darren and Naomi who have spent hours writing these helpful articles know a lot more about the technical and business side of the web than I do and I am happy to share them with you.
Take what you like, leave the rest.
Please leave a comment if you found this list of resources helpful. (I’ll be making my decision on whether or not to post more articles like this based on your response.)
Creative Web Biz: 10 Facebook Fan Page Tips For Creative Entrepeneurs is a great list of ideas to promote yourself and your work through the Facebook social network. Yamille Yemoonyah at Kabai33 makes it easy to do little things that add up to a big difference. You should also take a peek at some of her other articles including 25 Facebook Tips For Creative Entrepeneurs and 21 Blogs to Follow If You Want To Sell Art Online .
Darren Rowse over at Problogger has a great e-book entitled 31 Days to a Better Blog. This e-book started out as an online course/challenge that I took earlier this year and I am still working through it all. He offers really great content and if you choose to work through the projects there are forums where you can talk it all over with other like-minded bloggers. p.s. Problogger is definitely worth a peek too.
My favourite online marketing guru, Naomi Dunford, handles all things small business from her comand post over at IttyBiz. You have questions, she has reasonable, do-able answers. Go see her.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of resources, but if you take a peek at the articles and over at the sites I’ve mentioned you will find them full of clickable goodness. (And you will likely find yourself alone in the dark by the time you run out of places to explore).

Thanks for spreading the word! As independent artists, crafters and other creative entrepreneurs we really need to learn things like promotion, marketing, and some tech stuff to make our business work. I learned a lot along the way and I’m glad I can help others by sharing what I know.
BTW, you made my day by mentioning me along with Darren and Naomi in the same blog post. What an honor 🙂
Thanks for the great comment! You all are amazing people with really acute insights into your own areas of expertise. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks for these links to these really useful sites. I’ll be spending a fair bit of time reading over the next few days I think.
