I have found that this “Experimental” section of the 100 paintings has been challenging in surprising ways.
Before I go to far – Timeless was inspired by the daily challenge as well as by a vintage photo I came across. It had such a lovely pose that I just had to borrow it!
For this set the challenge often requires me to prepare a surface before I actually start to create a painting. At very least I have found myself experimenting with ways to stretch paper so that it will stand up to what I have for it.

The Experiments have had me working in watercolour and also reminding me that acrylics can behave in very similar “watercolour-y” ways.
I find myself working later into the afternoon.
Being delayed by drying times.
Not as focused with achieving a crisp image or final painting.
Working bigger and more loosely.
It isn’t how I usually choose to work. I’m not sure I like it ( but then again – when are you sure that you like it when you push outside of what is normal for you?)
Today’s inspiration – was actually the iridescent background called for in today’s painting. It got me thinking about fairies and other sparkly things. So as I went through my archive of sketches this dancer stood out. I’ve painted her before but not like this!
I was at a loss for a title – but I’m open to suggestions!
