I have so much to be thankful for. This painting was inspired by a request that I paint poppies.
I love poppies!
For some reason though, I have never painted or even really drawn one. So it was high time to try it.
Poppies are bold and fragile by nature – but for this painting I wanted to focus on the BOLD, an play around with 60’s influences, and also with a bit of Paul Gaugin’s signature style – outlining things.
The great thing about the Big Thankyou Project is the freedom it gives me – freedom to experiment with different subjects and styles. In the next painting you’ll see I went a completely different direction… as if this wasn’t different enough!

Bold is so vibrant! — makes me think of Georgia O’Keefe!
I have a lot of respect for Georgia O’Keefe. She was a visionary in many ways – so I am honoured with the comparison! Thanks!
It is great that your thank you project has provided you with more than just a warm fuzzy feeling! Inspiration is a funny thing that rears it’s wonderful head at the strangest times sometimes, doesn’t it?!
Glad my favourite painted flower (even more so now I have one of yours! ) was a source of inspiration for you. This one is so bold and vibrant. But I really like the one I’m going to hang on my wall 🙂 . Thanks again.
I love this, I am a fan of poppies, as well… I am trying to incorporate them into my wedding planning (my date is 11.11.11!) 🙂
Thanks Jenny! Congratulations on your wedding =) Here in Canada November 11 is Remembrance Day and we all wear poppies as part of that
